Cellphones are an important part of our everyday life, and recent stats show us that more than 80% of adults in the U.S. now own a cellphone. We have come a long way in the last 20 years, and thanks to emerging technology its possible to do much more than just text and call using your cellphone.

That’s what we wanted to look at today, so below we have highlighted the 7 best ways that you can use a cell phone, so grab a coffee and let’s get stuck in.
#1 – Use Your Phone to Watch Films
These days you can use your cellphone to watch your favorite TV programs and movies. As an example, you can install the Netflix app onto your phone and then choose from hundreds of programs that you can then stream right to your cell phone. This does require a decent connection; otherwise you are going to experience a lot of buffering which will ruin your experience.
#2 – Control Your Home Lighting
This little feature can be spectacular, and you will want to show this off to anyone and everyone that comes to your doorstep – from your family to the paperboy. Using specially made light bulbs that are available at the likes of Amazon.com, and an app that you can download onto your cellphone, you can connect the two together using WiFi.
Once connected you can then control when the lights come on using a timer, and you can also set the dimness/brightness of the lights.
#3 – Use Your Phone to Control Drones
You have all heard of Parrot Drones, right? Well using an app on your phone you can control your drone in the sky, and check out the onboard camera at a safe distance (ie the ground!). They do cost $545 which is the only downside but if you are an ultimate geek then this gadget is for you.
#4 – Use Your Phone as a Hotspot
Another nifty feature under the settings options is to turn your phone into its own portable hotspot which then allows other devices to use the internet connection. You are essentially sharing your phones WiFi or 3G/4G connection, under a password protected encryption. Handy when you need to connect a WiFi only tablet to the net by using a 3G/4G enabled phone.
#5 – Scan Barcodes and Check For Prices
Another feature you have on your phone is a barcode scanner which works off the phones camera. You can scan in anything from QR Codes to product barcodes, and by doing this you can establish what stores sell the product you want and where the cheapest place to buy it is.
#6 – Use Your Phone For AR
Augmented Reality has come a long way in the last couple of years, and despite it being very new to the scene you can find it on many cellphone apps and even as part of your camera software. The Sony Xperia cameras have an AR feature where you can hover your camera over a certain area and then create a scene, whether its dinosaurs walking over your desk or The Super Mario brothers throwing bombs at your keyboard.
#7 – Keep Yourself Fit
Our last way to use a cellphone is by keeping fit, again this is fairly new to cellphones and has only really rolled out in the last few years. If you have some smart wear to connect then you can really make the most of fitness apps, as they will track your heart rate, distance travelled, calories burnt and lots of other statistical data that will help you keep track of your fitness progress.
