Motorola Smart Phones Will Not Receive Android Update

Android devices at large have had several problems in the past with updates. Rather it was Android developers who have been slow in issuing updates for device owners, and for this reason attackers have found it easier to prey on Android devices. Mobile spy apps have grown in both, numbers as well as functionality and cell phone tracking is something which is a worry for everyone. Both of the latest versions of Android, versions 4.0 and 4.1 have their own advantages and benefits, but the security problems continue to exist.

Cell phone tracking issues have been present since the very first versions of Android. As the platform has grown security measures have not grown at the same pace making it an easy target for mobile spy apps. The few updates which have been made available were not publicized properly and a large portion of consumers is not even aware of available updates.

Delayed response of Android

The matter of unavailable and delayed updates is upsetting a lot of consumers as well as manufacturers and Motorola device owners are in for even worse news. The leading three models manufactured by Motorola which include the Motorola Photon 4G, Motorola Atrix 4G and Electrify have been waiting for some time for their updates. Though, Motorola has stated that the latest version of Android, Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) will not be issued to these devices. What makes this worse is that owners of these devices have not yet even received the Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) update, which has been in circulation for quite some time now. Unfortunately the firm has declared that neither Ice Cream Sandwich nor Jelly Bean updates will be forwarded to these device owners. Leaving them no option but to continue using their Gingerbread (Android 2.3) devices or switch to a newer handset which is on the list of devices which will support the latest versions of Android.

Motorola, like Android itself, is notorious for issuing updates and takes an unprecedented amount of time. Owners of Motorola’s old device, the Droid Bionic have been standing in line for several months and now Motorola has come out to say that is will be sometime later in final quarter of 2012. Droid Bionic owners are waiting for the Ice Cream Sandwich update where as owners of newer devices have been refused an upgrade to Jelly Bean. According to officials from Motorola, the firm had to make some critical decisions as to which device should receive the operating system updates. However, it is still unclear as to why these devices have been left out and not given access to the new software.

One helpful feature is the list of most current devices and their upgrade status. The list which can be found on Motorola’s website specifies which updates a certain phone is eligible for and also mentions the updates which certain phones will not be receiving. If you want to find out whether or not your phone will be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean upgrades make sure you have a look at that list.
