The Best Motorola Flip Phone – The Motorola W270 Vs. The Motorola W377

Motorola made a hit with their best-selling RAZR series of flip phones, but that’s not all they have to offer. If you’re looking for a low budget but decent phone, then a Motorola flip might just be the way to go. But why might you buy a flip phone in the first place? There are actually several advantages to flip mobile phones…

The Advantages of Going Flip…

Flip phones, or clamshell phones as they’re sometimes referred to, have a number of great advantages over traditional smart phones. They tend to be cheaper, for a start. They also get much better battery life. The screen of a phone is what uses the most battery power on the device, and since the screen on a flip phone is shut off when the phone is closed you end up saving a lot of juice. Plus, since the phone folds, the screen and keyboard are protected when the phone is closed.

This can make a flip phone the ideal choice for some people, people who work on dangerous building sites, for example, or even those who live an active outdoors lifestyle. Today we’re looking at two budget Motorola models, the W270 and the W377. We put them to the test to find out exactly how they compare and what their differences are. If you’re in the market for a budget flip phone, then read on to find out how these two devices match up and which one we recommend as a better buy…

What the Motorola W270 Can Do for You…

The Motorola W270 has a couple of things going for it. Firstly, it has much better battery life. The W270 averages around twenty per cent more talk time (nine hours versus just seven and a half hours on the W377) and a massive eighty per cent more stand by time (nineteen days versus just ten and a half days on the W377) per battery charge cycle. This means that you’ll spend a lot less time charging your phone. And for those that want to take off into the great outdoors, it means you can spend a lot more time away from an electrical outlet. Plus, the W270 is a lot more portable than the W377. It comes in around ten per cent thinner (17 mm versus 19 mm) and is about ten per cent smaller than the W377, making it that much easier to carry around with you.

What the Motorola W377 Can Do Best…

The Motorola W377 really only has one advantage over the W270, it has a better screen. The W377 has a TFT LCD screen, as opposed to the older STN LCD technology that’s used on the W270. This results in a brighter display that’s more vivid and has better colour reproduction. But that’s really the only advantage of the W377.

Which One’s the Better Buy?

We’re going for the W270. We like the better quality display on the W377, but it really doesn’t make up for the great battery power and better portability of the Motorola W270. So if you’re looking for a great buy, then the W270 really is the way to go.

Phil Turner has owned a few flip mobile phones and would buy one again next time he needs a phone.
