Webhosting

More and more internet users want to have their own web site.

Thou the free services like Blogger and Squidoo were improved it is better to have your own domain and web hosting because you will have more control.

Plus having your own domain name is more professional.

And on your own site you decide what kind of website to build:

  • ecommerce
  • blog
  • portal
  • forum

Also you decide what platform and technology will be used (OS commerce, WordPress, Joomla, PHP BB, Flash or simple HTML code).

Here are a few tips on how to choose the right domain name:

1. The domain name must be short. You want people to go directly to your website and they must type it fast. For example gadgets-club.com is short but myweblogaboutgadgetselectronicsandtechnology.com is to long for a user to type it (no one will have the patience to write such a long domain name).

2. The domain name must be memorable. You want people to learn your site and come back.

3. The domain name must help you or your business. The idea is to help people find you and this is done by 2 ways: by having a brand as the domain or using a descriptive domain. Eg. Google.com is a brand name; gadgets.com is a descriptive one.

How to choose the right hosting plan

The best way is  to read the web hosting reviews, Usually you will find the most honest opinions on forums. So I suggest to start form there.

Blogs and comparison sites are also good places to get info.

Top tips about hosting

1. Test the support, It is vital to have good support! My method is to contact them via email, phone and chat and see how fast they respond. Also I ask them a lot of question including stupid ones to see if they have the patience and the skill to solve my problems.

2. See if they offer uptime guarantee. Most hosting companies will have their servers working 99.90% of time.

3. Look for money back  guarantee.

I wanted to give you these excellent tricks I found – I hope that’s okay.

Did you know that you can speed up WordPress and other CMS by up to 4 times – for FREE and easily!

You can just insert 2 lines of php to the header file to activate ZLIB compression – this will make your blog (particularly WordPress) up to 4 times faster immediately!

You can GZip your css files, etc which will save even more bandwidth and help your site load even quicker. There’s at least one GZip plugin for wordpress.

You can (of course) also use free tools to compress or crunch images too, which makes sites load quicker still.

Don’t forget to use wp-supercache for wordpress sites as well!

You can learn exactly how to do this by searching on google for each technique.

It is astounding how much difference this will make to your sites speed.

One little problem to note is that currently the WordPress “all in one seo” plugin will stop creating the home page title you choose when you use compression and will instead show the blog title – but that’s a small price and I’m sure it will eventually work with it.

I hope you find this useful.

If your site is resource intensive, that is requiring a lot of memory or CPU time, you may be interested in the Virtual Private Servers (VPS) Web Hosting and the Web Hosting: Dedicated Servers pages instead. Those plans allocate more resources to your website, allowing you to do things you would not normally be permitted in a shared web hosting environment. You can read more about this in the article The Fine Print in Web Hosting: Resource Usage Limits.

  4. articles very interesting and useful. select the web hosting and domain name can not be indiscriminate. Facilities provided by the web hosting should also be considered since this will affect the performance of your website / blog that we have. It’s good when you choose an appropriate domain name with niche websites / blogs that will be created, this will further strengthen the side of the keyword. Thanks for the information, I am waiting for the latest information.
