Wireless networks

Wireless network refers to any type of computer network that is wireless, and is commonly associated with a telecommunications network whose interconnections between nodes are implemented without the use of wires. Wireless telecommunications networks are generally implemented with some type of remote information transmission system that uses electromagnetic waves, such as radio waves, for the carrier and this implementation usually takes place at the physical level or "layer" of the network. Wireless network is a network set up by using radio signal frequency to communicate among computers and other network devices. Sometimes it’s also referred to as Wi-Fi network or WLAN. This network is getting popular nowadays due to easy to setup feature and no cabling involved. You can connect computers anywhere in your home without the need for wires.

Wi-Fi has a lot of advantages. Wireless networks are easy to set up and inexpensive. They’re also unobtrusive. When the computer sends out the data, the binary data will be encoded to radio frequency and transmitted via wireless router. The receiving computer will then decode the signal back to binary data. The two main components are wireless router or access point and wireless clients. If you have not set up any wired network, then just get a wireless routerclip_image001 and attach it to cable/DSL modem. You then set up wireless client by adding wireless cardclip_image001[1] to each computer and form a simple wireless network. You can also cable connect computer directly to router if there are switch ports available

A wireless router is a device used to allow access to the Internet or a computer network without the need for a cabled connection. Wireless router or access points should be installed in a way that maximizes coverage as well as throughput. The coverage provided is generally referred to as the coverage cell. Large areas usually require more than one access point in order to have adequate coverage. You can also add access point to your existing wireless router to improve coverage. The internet contains lists of the top ten router that will be the best buy in terms of security, cost and quality.

The major disadvantage of the wireless networks is the lack of network security. There are various hackers software available, even for free downloads on the net, which can be used to gain access to a wireless network. To prevent this, improvisations have been made on the routers. Wireless Routers now incorporate firewall features with internet connection sharing and networking facility. They are the modified versions of hard wired routers or networking software. Wireless Routers are customized wired routers provided with built in wireless access points. These built in access points enable you to have wireless as well as wired routers at the same time. Moreover, today you will find wireless routers with a built in DSL or cable modem. This modified version of router offers you a hardware/software security combo box that is designed to guard your home network.

  1. WiFi has many problems. bad signal in city…

  2. Yeah, wireless routers are the best, but they are also easy to hack if u don’t know how to protect your as* from hacker’s..

  3. The first and most vital step in configuring a wireless router should be *CHANGE* the factory admin password! Do this even if you don’t do anything else!! Next, if you want sanctuary choose WPA2 with AES encryption. WEP is weak and easily fractured. WPA is getting weaker as the attacks get better. I’ve also read that MAC cloning is now pretty easy so that method of restricting access to known pcs isn’t secure anymore. Finally, if you’re in the router making changes you might as well update it to use Open DNS in its place of whatever your ISP is using.

  4. I have been using a wireless router for years and have it on a locked network where password is required. As with any password-protected thing, codes can be broken.
